Fashion Student

The University of East London and FashionCapital (a not-for-profit, industry-based specialist, which offers mentoring, professional advice and retail space for designers) have come together to announce the opening of the Fashion Studio -  a brand new state-of-the-art fashion design and manufacturing facility based at the University’s Docklands campus.

Based in the University’s Knowledge Dock, the 4,000 square foot unit will enable educational workshops and seminars, sampling and toiling and production runs of up to 5,000 units a week.

Using all new equipment, the centre will boast an 18 metre cutting table, speciality machines for all types of trimming and top-end designer work and feature a computer suite with 15 PCs and Apple Macs equipped with the latest software design packages.

Business Centre Manager, Jackie Chandler, said: “We’re delighted to have launched this initiative. UEL already enjoys an enviable reputation for both fashion and business, so this is a wonderful example of us bringing the two together to the benefit of both.”

FashionCapital Director, Jennifer Holloway, said: “By combining with the outstanding team at UEL, which also includes the FABpad (the University’s onsite artwork and textiles printing service), the Fashion Studio can meet all of the University’s design and production needs.”

The studio will open in October this year.
