British Swimming partners with the University of East London for 2012

British Swimming has now joined a growing number of elite Olympic and Paralympic sports organisations, including Team USA and Team Singapore, in partnering with the University of East London for the 2012 Games.

British Swimming today signed an agreement with UEL to house representatives in residential accommodation at the University's Docklands campus during the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Team USA will also be accommodated at Docklands, in addition to using the campus and its new £21 million SportsDock facility for accommodation, sport performance and operational purposes; Team Singapore will base its athlete recovery centre at Stratford campus.

UEL Pro-Vice Chancellor Nirmal Borkhataria said he was delighted British Swimming had chosen to accommodate key members of its 2012 Games team at Docklands, which further demonstrated the world class facilities UEL has to offer: “We are very proud to host not only international organisations during the 2012 Games but also our local sporting groups too. British Swimming is a welcome addition to our Olympic and Paralympic partnership portfolio, which is ever increasing in the lead up to the London Games.”

British Swimming Chief Executive David Sparkes said: “British Swimming has been working with UEL now since London was awarded the Olympics Games to build a legacy for the University after 2012 and enhance UEL’s sporting offer. This partnership demonstrates how the relationship works for both the University and British Swimming.”
