The University of East London is staging a special photographic exhibition in Stratford to highlight its emerging reputation as a leading sports university.

The exhibition, which is free of charge and has been organised in partnership with East Thames Group, is one of the many events taking place across the Capital as part of London 2012 Open Weekend - a celebration of art, dance, film and sports events, to mark one year to go to the 2012 Games.

As part of the exhibition, people will see images that capture the ingrained culture of sporting success at UEL and the vital role sports students are playing in helping the university become the number one university for sports in London by 2015. Through these images, people will gain a visual insight into how UEL sports students are competing and excelling in sports such as basketball, tennis, judo and rowing.

The exhibition also charts the exciting development of the brand new state of art SportsDock, which is due to open at the Docklands Campus in spring 2012, and will be used by Team USA during the London 2012 Games.

John Lock, Director of the London 2012 office at UEL, said: “I’d like to say a big thank you to East Thames Group for helping us stage this exhibition to celebrate London 2012 Open Weekend. We hope people come along and enjoy this free exhibition and that it offers them a good snapshot of what UEL and its partners are doing to ensure a lasting sporting legacy remains in East London.”

The exhibition is open Monday to Friday between 8.00am and 6.00pm at 29-35 West Ham Lane. It will run until the end of July.
