UEL fashion student Le Thuy Le Thi was greeted with rapturous applause by the six-hundred strong audience as she took to the stage at Graduate Fashion Week’s closing Gala show on Wednesday.

Fashion legend Jeff Banks announced to the sold-out venue that Le Thuy had won ‘the People’s Choice’ award, launched by ITV’s This Morning show, for a design from her collection, Afternoon Tea.

According to the show’s producers, Le Thuy won the online vote with a landslide victory. The fashion student collected the award from Fiona Lambert, Brand Director at George, and television personality, Jason Gardiner, while the result was also announced live on This Morning earlier today.

Le Thuy said: “When my name was announced, I was just ‘Wow!’ – I couldn’t believe I won and want to thank everyone who voted for me. It was like a dream to go up on stage in front of all those people and collect the award.”

Anna Dowd, This Morning fashion producer, said: “I was incredibly impressed  with the standard of outfits featured on the show and wish Le Thuy all the best for her future career, I hope we have helped her in some way towards her future success.”

Selena Bolingbroke, UEL Pro Vice Chancellor said: “I’m absolutely thrilled that Le Thuy has won this award, and I’m sure it will just be the first of many in a shining career. Our students at UEL are all so talented and hard-working – I’m delighted that one of them has achieved this well-deserved recognition. “
