The Whitechapel Gallery is to curate an exhibition of UEL’s fine art students, hosted by happening east end arts centre RichMix.
The work, presented by ten undergraduate fine art students, draws its influences from childhood memories, traditional folk mythology and the politics of identity.
Entitled ‘East End Blend’, the exhibition will showcase the diverse media with which the artists work, ranging from traditional painting and sculpture to photography and installation art.
The participating artists are Anna Naylor, David Martin, Philip Bradshaw, Crystalann McHaffie, Léa Maltese, Désirée Ickerodt, Malgorzata Rachocka, Elevine Berge, Catia Rodrigues and Valeriya Georgieva, all presenting a single, recently produced work.
Described by RichMix as 'the product of UEL's melting pot', the exhibition begins with a private viewing on Friday 25 February, and is open to the public thereafter until Wednesday 2 March. Admittance is free.
Emphasising the idea of collaboration that has so often defined the East End, the exhibition is curated by students of the Whitechapel Gallery MA course ‘Curating the Contemporary’.
