UEL students contribute to prestigious European IT conference

Monday 7 February 2011

Alireza Ghadrdanizadi, Mohammad Monsef and Imran Askerniya, were supported by Associate Dean, Professor Hamid Jahankhani, and senior lecturer Dr Ameer Al-Nemrat.

Over 80 students and academics from leading universities across Europe gathered at the University of Applied Sciences in Erfurt, Germany, for the 'IT Security in a Connected World' conference, in January.

Papers were received to be presented to the conference from throughout Europe, although just 20 of these were selected as winners to be delivered as full papers at the event. Among those selected were papers by three students from the University of East London’s School of Computing Information Technology and Engineering.

Along with the media and an invited audience; the students were joined by members of the German police’s cybercrime unit and representatives from leading antivirus and spyware software developer Kaspersky Lab - the conference is part of the Kaspersky Academy Education Programme.

The three students, Alireza Ghadrdanizadi, Mohammad Monsef and Imran Askerniya, were supported by Associate Dean, Professor Hamid Jahankhani, and senior lecturer Dr Ameer Al-Nemrat.

The programme of events also included four workshops, one of which was led by Professor Jahankhani, who said of the conference: “This is a great experience for the students because they have an opportunity to present their work to a major employer and to network and discuss research opportunities with their peers and leaders in the security community.”
