CEO of industry giant describes UEL’s diversity as a real asset

Thursday 9 December 2010

Martin Slark

Students from across the University were invited to come and listen to Martin Slark, CEO of leading global supplier of electronic components, Molex Inc., today.

Martin offered his own personal advice as to how to succeed in business, addressing the big questions: What does it take for a company to operate successfully in today’s global economy, and what does that require of its key executive staff?

He spoke of the US government’s decision to allow Lehman Brothers to file for bankruptcy, saying that he had never seen a decision change the economic landscape so drastically, but that despite the economic downturn, companies still needed to find a way to grow and that despite the current economic climate, opportunities for graduates were still very much there for the taking.

Speaking about UEL, he described the University’s rich cultural diversity as a real asset and advised students that when they enter into the world of work, to think about where they are going to work in terms of not only where they can make the most impact but also which companies can offer them the best opportunities.

Molex sells over 100,000 different products for use in a huge variety of electronic equipment from mobile phones to missile systems and ranks some of the World’s largest companies among its many clients.
