UEL has beaten off stiff competition from universities across the country to land a £1,000 grant to help improve the health and fitness of Newham residents.
With the support of funders, Podium, Sports Force and Research Councils UK, plans are being made to run a public event at the university’s Stratford campus early in the new year.
UEL will be calling on individuals and participants from local sports clubs who would like to improve their health and well-being to attend a public meeting where they can hear expert advice and take part in a range of activities.
There will be an opportunity to find out more about fitness testing, body fat indexing, sports performance enhancement and the work of the UEL sports injuries clinic.
The event is being organised by Marcia Wilson, UEL’s Sport and Exercise Science Field Leader, and Maggie Mclinden who leads on work UEL undertakes with local schools and colleges.
Marcia said: "This is a fantastic opportunity to welcome local people with an interest in sport, to showcase our facilities, study opportunities and demonstrate our growing research portfolio."
