A photography exhibition entitled Familiarities opens on Wednesday at GMRA Spaces, Soho, featuring the work of UEL graduates Paola Leonardi, Lee Hooper and freelance photographer Richard Johnson.
The exhibition brings together the three artists in exploring themes of the everyday through the photographic medium. Their collective work explores society, culture and family with an inquisitive scrutiny, creating an exciting show that crosses the boundaries between documentary and fine art photography.
Paola graduated from Graphic Fine Art from University of East London (UEL) then went on to study Photography at Goldsmiths College. She currently works as a technical associate in the School of Architecture and Visual Arts at UEL and is also a freelance photographer, while Lee Hooper graduated in 2009 from UEL with a BA in Photography.
Lee Hooper’s contribution to the exhibition, ‘The Age of Expectation’ presents a series of honest and frank portraits that explore masculinity and personal identity. While the series ‘When I Walked through Walls’ by Paola Leonardi acts as both a document of, and an emotional farewell to, her dying grandmother. Through images of her, her room and her effects we are offered a glimpse of a life as it slips out of view.
The exhibition opens with a private view from 6pm on Wednesday and runs until the following Saturday.
