National Energy Saving Week

Sara Correia, a Health and Exercise post-graduate at UEL, has won in her category at the 6th Open Capoeira Muzenza World Championship in Rio de Janeiro.

Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian martial arts discipline which also combines music, dance and acrobatics and is believed to have originated as a fusion between Brazilian dance styles and the fighting skills of the slave population.

Sara, whose group is called Muzeza and has a presence in over 25 different countries throughout the World, took part in the international competition this summer representing both England and Portugal and won in the teachers and monitors category, the highest of the competition categories. The London team achieved a total of 6 medals.

In addition to studying for her Masters degree, Sara also works as a Personal Trainer, Pilates and Capoeira teacher for Nordic Balance, a personal fitness centre in Piccadilly Circus.
