UEL student selected for advisory board of World's leading education publisher for second year running

Thursday 2 September 2010

Aliya Nuur

The World’s leading education publisher Pearson Education has chosen University of East London student Aliya Nuur as a member of its eight-strong Student Advisory Board for the forthcoming academic year.

Scores of applications for the eight positions, which give students a unique opportunity to be directly involved in thecorporate strategies of one of the World’s leading publishers, were received from across the United Kingdom and Ireland.

Another UEL student, Web Chinduta, was selected last year when the board was first established.

The much-sought-after position will give Aliya an opportunity to work with editors and marketing managers to influence the direction of existing and future Pearson products. She will also be given direct access to the company’s most senior executives, allowing her to influence decision-makers at the highest level of the business.

In addition Aliya will be required to attend two expenses-paid residential weekends. In return she will receive £500, free textbooks for the year and the invaluable addition to her CV that the position will offer.

Aliya said: “I met Web when I signed up with the Finance and Investment Society at the university. He recommended me to apply for the post and I went to the employability team to ask for advice on my CV. I was really happy when I received the letter confirming my place on the board. I never thought I would get the part as a lot of students from all the universities of the UK applied and they only had 8 places to fill. I will be working on several projects with Pearson and am really looking forward to starting my new role in September”.

Mark Faulkner, Employability Manager at UEL said: “‘When I initially put Web Chinduta forward and he was successful I was thrilled, as was he, so now I am even more delighted to hear that, with Aliya Nuur, we have a UEL student on the Pearson Advisory Board for the second successive year”.
