The University of East London’s Cass School of Education has been recognised as outstanding in a number of areas in its recent Ofsted report. ‘Outstanding’ is the highest ranking that Ofsted can bestow upon any educational establishment.

The school was rated as ‘Good’ overall with outstanding features. Several of the areas that were praised as outstanding in the report included the way in which leadership at all levels anticipated change and prepared for and responded to national and local initiatives. Indeed, this quality was rated as such across all sectors: primary, secondary and further education (FE).

The report also described as outstanding the way in which students were trained to teach in a socially and culturally diverse society, it also highlighted the excellent quality of professional support provided to both trainees and mentors by professional tutors, stating that, “the ethos at the University of East London is one of care and inclusion. The high quality of personal care demonstrated by subject leaders and other support tutors is reflected in the fact that almost all trainees report being exceptionally well looked after while retention is high”.

The Cass School of Education works with over 250 local schools and 25 colleges and similarly the report lauded the exceptionally high levels of commitment to these partnerships, also commending the school for having strong links with the local community and the significant contribution it makes to that community.

Associate Dean of School, Linda Amrane-Cooper said: “I was delighted that Ofsted recognised our strengths, particularly our work within the local community; supporting children and young people’s learning.

We are fortunate to be based in such a culturally diverse part of the country and it was important to us that Ofsted recognised the strength of our work within our local community.

I am immensely proud of all of our staff and our partner schools and colleges and feel that this report reflects the hard work they put into ensuring the Cass School of Education continues to be held in high esteem as a respected and forward-thinking learning establishment”.
