Business student Jeffrey Lawal-Balogun has been selected to represent England in the 200m sprint and 4x100m relay events at the 2010 Commonwealth Games.
Jeffrey will join the 100-strong team travelling to Delhi for the Games in October which will be his first Commonwealth event. He is on track for the Olympic Games in 2012 after running good times in the qualifying rounds of the European Athletic Championships in Barcelona last month.
South of England under-23 sprint champion Jeffrey, was spotted three years ago by a member of Kent Athletics Club as he sprinted through Bromley town Centre when he was late for a seminar at UEL’s Docklands Campus. Within a year, Jeffrey was already competing in the European Under-23 Championships and now has his sights firmly set on the London 2012 Olympics.
UEL Director of Sport, David Cosford says, “Congratulations to Jeffrey on such an outstanding achievement. His selection has been well-deserved and the whole University will be cheering him on during the Games in October.
