The University of East London’s (UEL) clearing operations began early on Thursday morning, with over 1,000 phone enquiries coming through to the university’s dedicated clearing hotline in its first half-hour of operation. Over 8,000 calls were received between 8.00am and 3.00pm – surpassing last year’s first day total of 6,500 well before the 8.00pm close time.
This year operations at the Clearing Centre have been boosted and the process has been streamlined to ensure that clearing is straightforward and stress-free. Over 100 specially-trained UEL staff are manning UEL’s clearing hotline matching applicants to available programmes.
Applicants will be processed as quickly as possible with new electronic systems to fast-track applications and offer acceptance. A bespoke iPad application has been introduced to effectively ‘triage’ applicants who visit the Clearing Centre, according to where they’re at in the application process. The technology will ensure that applicants move through the application process quickly and avoid any unnecessary waiting time.
With record levels of demand for university places and other institutions turning away students UEL is urging applicants to act fast to secure remaining places. While there are lots of courses that are not yet full, they are filling quickly.
UEL’s Head of Student Admissions, Emma Burchfield says, “Applicants may be very disheartened and think that they won’t get a place this year but it is important they realise that there are still some places out there. You won’t know unless you call so do your research, work out your plan of action and get on the phone!"
Places are filling quickly at UEL and a number of popular courses are already full including social work, physiotherapy and performing arts courses such as dance. Anyone who is interested in applying to UEL should contact the Clearing hotline on 020 8223 3333.
