The University of East London (UEL) is inviting local Year 11 students to attend the On Track residential summer school to explore the science of sport and learn more about what’s happening in the lead up to the 2012 Olympic & Paralympics Games.
Participants will gain an insight into sports participation and practice through workshops, field trips, mini-lectures and activities. The four-day summer school is ideal for students with a passion for sport, or those who have an interest in coaching, sports psychology, how the body works and sports nutrition.
UEL staff, student ambassadors and sporting industry professionals will support and supervise students during summer school. A number of social activities are also included in the programme, giving participants an opportunity to make new friends and share a common interest.
The On Track summer school will be held from Tuesday, 20 July to Friday, 23 July at UEL’s state-of-the-art Docklands Campus. Students will be treated to an authentic university experience, staying in en-suite student rooms and sharing meals at our on-site diner. UEL Student Ambassadors will also be on hand to answer questions about university life and the transition from school to university.
Maggie McLinden from UEL’s Education and Community Partnerships team says, “this is a fantastic opportunity for students and in our experience students generally come away from the event with new aspirations and new friends. With the Olympic and Paralympic Games coming up in 2012, we’re hoping to encourage as many young people as possible to develop their skills and talents in sports-related fields.”
