UEL assisted in the running and funding of Redbridge Council’s annual Asian Women’s Education and Training Fair today, aimed at helping Asian women in the borough explore new work and training opportunities.
Women from all sections of the community attended the event which took place today between 10am and 2.30pm at Ilford Town Hall. Experts and professionals, including representatives from the University, were on hand to answers questions and provide advice.
At midday Bushra Tahir, Chair of Awaaz Redbridge Community Empowerment, was announced as the winner of the Asian Women’s Achievement Award in recognition for her significant contribution to the Borough.
Bushra said: “I was thrilled and delighted to receive this award today but of course It would not have been possible to achieve this accolade without some very special people - our dedicated management committee, our hard-working volunteers, our service users and especially the Asian Woman Planning Group.
This platform has given me a fantastic opportunity to further deliver our services to the community and to make our voice heard. I look forward to continuing our work in supporting women to learn more, build their confidence and to empower them through the whole range of activities that we offer”.
