Thursday 24 June 2010

Art Work

The University of East London (UEL) is inviting local Year 10 students to attend Meltdown 2010 Aimhigher summer school to explore their artistic talents and work with a range of accomplished practitioners who represent their field.

Participants will gain an insight into aspects of the visual arts, learn important skills, develop their creative ideas and think about careers in these fields. The free, five-day summer school is ideal for creative students with a passion for new media, design and thinking outside the box.

UEL staff will support and supervise students throughout the programme in subjects including photography, web design and moving image and product design. Participants will have an opportunity to make new friends, share common interests and have a chance to exhibit their work at a showcase event held on the final day for families and schools.

Meltdown 2010 will be held from Monday, 28 June to Friday, 2 July at UEL’s state-of-the-art Docklands Campus. Students will be treated to an authentic university experience, and the event is a unique opportunity to learn more about university life. UEL Student Ambassadors will also be on hand to answer questions about university life and the transition from school to university.

Maggie McLinden from UEL’s Education and Community Partnerships Team says, “the event is a fantastic opportunity for students and in our experience students generally come away from the event with new aspirations and new friends. Digital arts and new media are two industries that are expanding rapidly and there are a diverse range of careers out there for ambitious young people.”
