An innovative new project led by The Sustainability Research Institute (SRI) at the University of East London is helping innovative small and medium sized businesses in and around the capital develop environmental awareness technologies.

Developed as part of the Eureka project, an exciting EU funded project, TraxEyes – a unique energy saving glow in the dark road studs, will help save lives and is an affordable and environmentally friendly way to mark the contours of any unlit public access area.

Developed by entrepreneur Grant Taylor, TraxEyes has already been tried and tested along a 4km section of the Clyne Valley cycleway on behalf of Swansea City Council. Grant is hoping to bring his project to the London authorities and is working with the SRI at UEL to make his dream a reality.

Grant said: “It’s been great to work with the Sustainable Research Institute and their environmental expertise has really helped me to access new markets and it’s cost effective too.

“I’m delighted that so many local authorities around the UK have already installed TraxEyes and I hope more will follow as people realise the power and money that can be saved by reducing the number of streetlights in use and also potentially saving lives.”

The SRI offer free consultancy with business and environmental technology experts for eligible SME’s with a focus on how environmental awareness can access new emerging technologies, markets and enhanced products.

Darryl Newport, Director of the Sustainability Research Institute said: “TraxEyes is an example of a fantastic product that is energy efficient and inexpensive. We are working with Grant and other like minded individuals to help them reach their goals and provide them with the best opportunities to access new markets, reduce their carbon footprint, create new jobs and boost their sales.”
