UEL graduate is a Partner in a successful Law firm

George Mayanja

A University of East London graduate has used the skills he learnt during his time as a Law student at UEL to help set up a successful law company in Neasden.

George Mayanja, 42, from Eastham, graduated in 2000 with an LLB Honours in Law and he has now helped found Quee & Mayanja solicitors with Partner, Bob Quee, in February this year. The firm already have forty clients and more cases are arriving every day.

During his time at UEL, George specialised in all aspects of immigration and asylum law and now Quee & Mayanja, who are based in Neasden Lane, have a wealth of extensive experience in asylum and citizenship law.

George said: “My experience at UEL helped me to really focus on legal research. I was given all the training that I needed and one lecturer, John Strawson, taught us everything we needed to know about International law. He received a standing ovation when he spoke about Africa’s contribution to International law.

"Of course, immigration is a key and emotive issue for all the three parties in the lead up to the election and people in different communities are really concerned about how it may affect them. We have won tough cases against the Home Office already and it’s hard not to feel empathy for some of the extremely difficult ones."

George met Bob Quee in a previous law firm and they became good friends. Now they have plans to branch out into other areas such as family and criminal law in the future and open another office in East London.

John Strawson, Reader in International Law, said: "I remember George and I’m delighted to hear that he has doing so well. At UEL, we aim to inspire students to go on and achieve success in their area of speciality. I’m also pleased that he remembers my lectures!"
