The University of East London's School of Law students have come up with an innovative way to help the local community by offering free legal advice on a number of important issues.
Based at UEL's Duncan House campus in Stratford, the Pro Bono Law Clinic provides legal advice on a number of topics to residents from some socially excluded communities, who may not otherwise be able to afford it.
The Clinic will be staffed by trained Law student volunteers supervised by qualified and experienced lawyers, committed to providing free quality legal advice to those most in need.
Local East London law firm Trinity Solicitors, have agreed to act as the overseeing solicitors for the Law Clinic. Trinity offer a wide range of legal expertise and share the Clinic's dedication to the East London community.
Justin Pierce, lecturer at UEL's Law School said: "The School of Law sees the Clinic as a great way for its students to gain practical experience under supervision. In today’s competitive job market, it’s seen as vital for law students to access a realistic overall experience before they have graduated and the clinic is a fantastic way to help them on their way."
The Clinic is able to help clients in areas of law such as landlord and tenant disputes, employment issues, consumer transactions, contractual disputes and social security.
Justin added: "With London 2012 fast approaching, everyone knows that Stratford is undergoing rapid regeneration. Yet despite these exciting changes, some residents may still find it difficult to access free legal advice and the School of Law is seeking to provide an opportunity for them to do that as part of its continued commitment to the community."
The Law Clinic is based at Duncan House, High Street, London E15. For further information please contact them directly on 020 8223 4048.
