For the last four years acclaimed author and poet Michelle Marie has performed at Black History Month. Marie said: “Black History Month is a positive and inspiring event and at UEL since 2005, it’s come so far. We now have so many positive influences that have made this event reach out to people outside the university and it’s now a real community show. Everyone is welcome to attend, so come ready with your questions for our guests about their careers, what inspires them or how to get into music, poetry or comedy.”
Discussions this year will centre around the term ‘Black’ and ‘African’ as descriptions of identity for a Diaspora originating from the African continent and now living and working in the western world.
Doors open from 5pm on Wednesday 7th October at the West Building Lecture Theatre, Docklands Campus.
Admission is free and light refreshments available after the event.
