UEL Partner Charity launches joint programme with a smile

Tuesday 7 July 2009

The University of East London (UEL) based Charity Childreach International held a reception on Friday 3 July to mark a new exciting partnership with Smile Foundation – a high profile NGO working on child focused programmes in 21 states in India.

Childreach International is a pioneering international development charity set up four years ago by UEL students based in the Knowledge Dock at the Docklands Campus. It supports children in the developing world through education, sanitation, health and skills.

Smile Foundation deliver effective programmes targeting the needs of vulnerable children such as the ‘Smile on Wheels’ initiative. They also have many notable patrons from the worlds of business and philanthropy.

The two charities are aiming to highlight the need for UK residents to do whatever they can to help those living below the poverty line in India.

Firoz Patel, Childreach International Director of Operations welcomed the partnership. He said: “I’m delighted that Childreach have a partner with the experience and integrity of the Smile Foundation India.  We look forward to working together to transform the lives of vulnerable children throughout South Asia.”

Anyone wanting to find out how they can support this programme should contact Childreach International on 0208 223 7066 or visit www.childreach.org.uk

Knowledge Dock already works with over 2,000 businesses and supports start-up activity through a wide range of business support services. The new Petchey Centre for Entrepreneurship opened in March to support student business and help regenerate London through knowledge-led enterprise development.

End.
