ECDL students with their certificates

Students at the University of East London (UEL) are celebrating the award of their European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL) certificates.

65 Foundation year students from UEL’s School of Health and Bioscience students took part in a presentation ceremony at Stratford on Friday 5 June.

In total, more than 2,000 students have now successfully completed their ECDL qualification, thanks to a free programme set up by UEL’s Library and Learning Services. The ECDL is an accredited module and counts towards their degree.

ECDL Manager Cedrick Nosa, who has led and taught the programme since it began in 2005, said: “Students today are generally IT-literate but to succeed in the challenging jobs market, they need the extra edge that ECDL gives. We encourage all our students to complete this programme and it is making a real difference to their studies and employment success.”

93% of UEL students are in work or further study 6 months after graduation, one of the highest rates in London, according to government statistics.
