Spring Open Day at UEL is a huge success

Friday 1 May 2009

Hundreds of potential students came along to the University of East London’s (UEL) Open Day on Wednesday 29 April to find out more about the range of exciting undergraduate and postgraduate courses and combinations on offer this summer.

The Open Day was held at both the Docklands and Stratford Campuses from 4-7pm and visitors were able to tour the facilities, try out special taster sessions and attend the free talks.

Vicky Rossiter, Marketing Events Co-ordinator said: “The open day was a great success and it was good to see people from all over the world here today. Ninety five per cent of visitors who gave feedback to us said that they would consider coming to UEL, which of course, is wonderful. One person even said the Docklands campus student accommodation was the best they’d seen!”

Free talks given by academics were full and visitors were also able to attend taster sessions and speak with current students and staff directly to get a feel for the courses and university life.

Hedley Roberts, Acting Director of the Digital Arts and Visual Communications programme at UEL’s School of Architecture and Visual Arts (AVA) said: “There’s a lot of interest in the graphic design and photography programmes. Many of our degrees also offer combined honours for which we’ve been getting very positive responses about.”

Markus Davis, Director of the English Language Centre said: “We are offering advice on international qualifications and we’ve had plenty of interest so far.”

Frances Bronzite, Short Course Administrator said: “We’re reasonably busy today, we look after all the short courses and that includes everything from new IT courses which we run with the School of Computing, Information Technology and Engineering, First Aid, fabric printing and lots more. It’s also possible for us to tailor make courses for companies.”

Local resident Joshua Ozi, 36, is a shopkeeper from Canning Town. He was interested in looking for a part-time computing information and engineering course. Joshua said: “My brother is helping me with the shop now so I’ve decided to do something new. UEL has a good reputation locally and I’m impressed with the facilities on offer here.”
