Mayfest band on stage

Interested in getting back into education or doing part-time study to give your career a boost? UEL is running a range of events and taster sessions as part of Adult Learners Week, 9-15 May.

Come along to information and advice sessions & CV clinics throughout the week in venues including Stratford Public Library, Think Store, Tower Hamlets College, Whitechapel Ideas Store, Barking Learning Centre, and The Exchange in Ilford.

Adult Learners Week is co-ordinated by NIACE, the National Institute of Adult Continuing Education and the aim is to encourage adults to think about taking up learning and take part in learning activities and events across England.

Julie Walker, Information, Advice and Guidance (IAG) Co-ordinator at UEL said: “This is a great chance for adults to think about exploring different avenues of learning and transforming their lives. UEL has so much on offer and there are plenty of events and taster sessions taking place locally in libraries and colleges to suit everyone.

“You can try something you’ve always wanted to do, take a hobby that step further or learn new skills to further your career or simply for your enjoyment.”

UEL student Sue Browne has completed her BSc in Psychology and is currently studying for a MSc in Applied Positive Psychology. Sue said: “UEL has empowered me and given me a great sense of self-worth, I have become a whole person and I can now help other people.”

Sue is also winner of the 2009 Adult Learner's Award London Region and received the Gibson Memorial Award 2007 in recognition of her outstanding contribution to the School of Psychology and to her peers.

Jermaine St Rose lives in Ilford and is currently on a combined honours programme at UEL in Education Studies and Law. He wants to become a primary school teacher in a multicultural school for pupils with disabilities. Jermaine said: "I am so glad that I asked for advice from UEL as this encouraged me to study a degree. I was given invaluable information that enabled me to develop a career plan towards my aim of teaching.”
