Students, staff and alumni at the University of East London (UEL) have a chance to sharpen their entrepreneurial skills with a special careers and networking conference Innovation and entrepreneurship on April 22 from 6-9pm at the Docklands campus, organised by UEL’s Development and Alumni team.
Audience members will be able to ask the expert business speakers and consultants valuable advice on business matters including careers opportunities and further development and how to manage in the current recession. There will also be excellent networking opportunities for UEL's alumni, staff and business experts.
As part of the alumni Events and Communications Programme, the aim of the evening is to provide UEL graduates and present students with realistic opportunities for career development and networking by giving them access to the right resources and information.
One guest speaker is Lisa Newton, an award winning entrepreneur and the Director of Boogles Ltd, a successful bookkeeping service. Lisa is also an ambassador for the government campaign to encourage more young people and female entrepreneurs, Make Your Mark.
Other speakers include Ian Mackay, Director of Ian Mackay Training and Consultancy. Ian delivers training courses on subjects including presentation and communication skills, and networking and time management. He is currently a member of the FSB London Policy Unit, where he specialises in education, training and business support.
Dr Fariba Salehi-Kellaway, UEL’s Head of Development and Alumni said: “We are expecting most of the attending alumni to be local residents who live and work right here in the community in East London and we want to help them as much as possible in these tough times to succeed. The guest speakers will provide an excellent opportunity for people to get answers to their questions, understand the realities of the business world better and put that new knowledge towards developing their skills further to enhance their careers and fulfil their goals.”
There will also be a UEL presence amongst the speakers with Dr Adrian Haberberg, MBA Director and Principal Lecturer in strategic management at the Business School and Thorstein Klein, the Business Incubation Manager at the Knowledge Dock.
The Alumni Network currently has over 37,000 members around the world and it is growing every year.
Ends.
