The University of East London (UEL) gave a warm welcome this week to hundreds of new students arriving for the start of the new semester - despite the snowy conditions!
Many international students joined in the activities organised by the international team at the Docklands campus. Activities included Tai Chi, massage chairs, a treasure hunt designed to help students with the layout of the Docklands campus and entertainment by Peter Optical, a professional performer who helped people relax by teaching them juggling and balancing acts.
The students were taken on guided tours of London and saw landmarks such as St Paul’s Cathedral and Tower Bridge in all their winter glory.
Adrienne Clarke, UEL’s Director of the Corporate Marketing and International Office said: “I am delighted that so many students have joined UEL and braved the weather to start this week! We welcome them all here and wish them every success in their chosen programmes.”
New students were enthusiastic about being at UEL.
Olaosebiran Olaoluwa, 27 from Nigeria will be studying a MSC in Biotechnology. He said: “I chose UEL partly because of good recommendations from friends who have already studied there and also because I was lucky enough to get a £2000 scholarship which greatly helped my tuition fee, plus I am excited to be here.”
Dipika Kaur, 21 from India will be studying for a MSC in Applied Psychology. She said: “I’ve heard that UEL’s School of Psychology is the largest in the UK and has ultra modern equipment. Also the course curriculum is research orientated which will benefit my career opportunities back home.”
Liem Tran, 26 from Vietnam will be studying for a MBA in International Business. She said: “UEL has a great reputation for Business and I am looking forward to starting my course here.”
