Two Architecture students from the University of East London (UEL) have received awards as part of the prestigious Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) 2008 Presidents’ Medals.
Naofumi Takaoka, received his Professional Diploma in Architecture with Distinction in June 2008 and was awarded a Silver Medal Commendation as well as The Komfort Award (for the best use of interior space in a design project at Part 2 level) with the project entitled "Wrapping Urban Memory".
Moeko Yamagata, completed her BSc Honours in Architecture Degree also with Distinction and was short-listed for the RIBA Bronze Medal. She was awarded The Skidmore Owings and Merrill Foundation Traveling Fellowship for her project in Venice entitled “Monastaro de Torcello”.
Mark Hayduk, Professional Diploma tutor in Architecture at UEL said: “The architecture department is very proud of the Naofumi and Moeko’s achievements. This recognition of excellence in design is testimony to the talent that our school attracts and the unique approach that UEL has delivered in architecture. These awards are especially significant when you consider that the competition included nominations from over 150 schools of architecture, worldwide.”
