UEL student flexes her muscles as the British body building champion

Thursday 18 December 2008

A University of East London (UEL) student and a committed mum to two teenage boys is this year’s British Natural Bodybuilding Federation champion and has just finished seventh in the International Federation Professional Athletes bodybuilding competition held in Washington DC.

Annabel Ottey, 43, from Waltham Way, Chingford is in her first year at UEL studying BSc Sport and Exercise Science at the Stratford Campus. She has been a personal trainer at the Monster gym in Chesthunt, Hertfordshire for several years already and started training as a body builder after she completed the London Marathon in 2002.

Annabel said: “I’m really delighted to have come seventh in Washington, which means top ranking world-wide and to meet my goal of winning the British title, which I did in October this year. My husband competes as well in the shows and my kids are really proud of me.

“I intend to continue competing next year too and one of my further aims is to become a Lecturer at UEL in sports and exercise.”

Marcia Wilson, Programme Leader for Sports Science at UEL said: “Annie’s dedication to her sport is a great example to everyone at UEL. We are very proud that she is the British Champion – that’s a real achievement!”
