The University of East London (UEL) Docklands Campus will be rocking to the sound of top guitarist Jon Sterry in a unique concert next week that will help raise money for families with autism.
The UEL Rocks 4 Autism concert will take place on Friday 7 November at Aqua East and is in aid of the charity the UK Autism Foundation – who are aiming to build the first ever state- of-the art Autism Centre in London to help families with autism living below the poverty line.
Professor Susan Price, acting Vice Chancellor of UEL said: “We are delighted to be hosting this concert, which is in support of a much needed and ambitious objective. We hope it will be a huge success and we are looking forward to welcoming visitors here.”
Jon Sterry will be headlining and DJ’s Nene and Bevan from UEL will be joining in. Jon has been hailed as a top guitarist by Virgin Radio and he plans to entertain the audience with a diverse range of songs on the night.
Organiser Godwin Odusami from the Students Union, said: “This is a chance for the students of UEL to take part in a massive fundraising effort to help autistic children. We have a moral duty to support those who are vulnerable and it’s important to provide them with the best opportunities possible for their future.”
Ivan Corea of the UK Autism Foundation welcomed the initiative from the University of East London. He urged students to support the UEL Rocks 4 Autism Concert and raise funds for the work of the Foundation. He said: “I am very pleased that UEL is creating history as this is the first ever concert in aid of raising money for autism in East London. The money raised will be in aid of UK autism foundation and will benefit children with autism right across from Tower Hamlets to Redbridge.”
