From Beijing to London – Business and the Olympic Games

Wednesday 20 August 2008

The impact of the Olympic Games on business in Beijing after 2008 and London in the run-up to 2012areamong the key subjects of a wide-ranging seminar to be held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Beijing on the evening of Thursday 21 August.

The event is organised by the University of East London (UEL) Business School in association with the East London Business Alliance (ELBA), and delegates will include representatives of host cities as well as academics and business leaders.

Speakers include Professor Holger Preuss from Mainz, Germany, a leading expert in the economics of the Olympics, Peter Welton, Executive Director of ELBA, who will introduce the ‘New Generation London’ concept, and Dr Robert Lentell, Associate Dean of UEL’s Business School.

Dr Lentell, an expert in Sport Management, said: “The success of the Beijing Olympics is already having a major impact on the way the world is doing business with China. The challenge for London is to build on the experience of previous host cities to create new opportunities for business in the ‘New Generation London’, in ways that benefit our communities both locally and globally.”

To celebrate the links between Beijing 2008 and London 2012, the University of East London is launching a sports scholarship programme for Chinese students with partner institutions in China.
