Dr Robert Lentell, an expert in the field of sport and tourism management, has been appointed Associate Dean of the University of East London (UEL) Business School and will take up his post on Tuesday August 5.
Dr Lentell joins UEL from London Metropolitan Business School, where he was Leader of the Tourism, Sport and Creative Industries Subject Group. In his new post, he will have particular responsibility for developing external links and partnerships and leading on the UEL Business School’s employability agenda.
Dr Lentell said: “I am very excited at the prospect of working with UEL’s enthusiastic and forward-looking academics and helping Dean Len Shackleton to achieve his ambitious plans for the School. The run-up to the 2012 Olympic Games is a time of exciting opportunity for both the School and UEL as a whole, and I am very happy to now be a part of that.”
Dr Lentell, educated at Cambridge University, the Polytechnic of North London, and Canterbury Business School, spent eleven years in the sport and leisure industries as a management practitioner prior to becoming an academic.
His research and teaching interests focus on the community benefits and impacts of sport, quality management in sport and leisure, and the management of service operations. At London Met, he successfully established the Events Management Knowledge business partnership unit as a means of promoting knowledge exchange with businesses and other organisations.

He has the skills, background and dynamism to help establish UEL as a leading centre for business education, innovation and enterprise.”
The UEL Business School's new home, located on the waterfront of the Royal Albert Dock, was opened in 2007 by Her Majesty The Queen and HRH The Duke of Edinburgh.
