UEL/ICSA conference puts Corporate Social Responsibility in the spotlight - Thursday 17 April

Thursday 10 April 2008

Corporate Social Responsibility is now a legal duty for all companies in the UK, but what does this mean for company executives and board members? And what will the new Mayor of London do about it?

The University of East London (UEL) Business School has teamed up with the of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators (ICSA), Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW), and Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) to organise ‘CSR in London: getting it right’, a one-day conference for business leaders at the ICSA conference centre in Marylebone on Thursday 17 April.

Key speakers include Baroness Barker, Liberal Democrat spokesperson on social services in the community; Professor N. Craig Smith, Chair in Ethics and Social responsibility at INSEAD; Richard Vardy, Head of Corporate Social Investment at Investec plc; and Tatiana Bosteels, Senior Officer at London Climate Change.

The conference, one of a series of four events aimed at helping to answer the CSR challenge, will investigate a range of themes including innovation in CSR evaluation and reporting, how to get buy-in from boardroom level down, and quick wins for CSR beginners.

Dr Hannah Simcoe-Read, programme and partnerships leader at UEL Business School, said: “The debate about CSR has shifted. It is no longer about whether to make substantial commitments to CSR, but how to achieve this.

“Our series of one-day conferences aim to enable debate and knowledge exchange which can help participants develop and implement best practice. Industry experts will lead up-to-the-minute investigations of the ethical, social, environmental and financial aspects of CSR.”

CSR in London: getting it right will take place on Thursday 17 April at the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators, London, W1B 1AH. The programme is accredited for continuous professional development by the ICAEW, ICSA and RICS. For full details and booking, visit www.uel.ac.uk/csr.
