Celebrated restaurateur and University of East London (UEL) honorary graduate Iqbal Wahhab will reveal the key ingredients of a successful career as an entrepreneur at a special UEL alumni event to be held at the Docklands campus on Thursday 3 April.
All UEL students and graduates are invited to attend the Innovation and Success event, an evening of informal presentations, information and networking designed to increase awareness of career opportunities in east London and elsewhere.
Iqbal Wahhab is the award-winning founder of the acclaimed Cinnamon Club in Westminster, Tabla in Docklands and Roast in Borough Market. Away from the restaurant industry, lqbal acts as Chair of the Government’s Ethnic Minority Employment Advisory Group, which aims to promote ways of reducing ethnic minority unemployment levels.
Other keynote speakers will include Elizabeth Rogers, of Elizabeth Rogers Recruiting, and James Kavanagh, a UEL graduate who now works as Director of Land at the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.
Emma Cale, UEL Development and Alumni Officer, said: “This alumni event promises to be an inspiring occasion, with Iqbal, Elizabeth and James all offering tips and insights into how to succeed in life after university.
"It’s a great opportunity for all of our graduates to find out more about the benefits they can still receive from their old university, as well as to network with fellow alumni, make new friends and socialise with old class colleagues.”
Graduates of UEL and its predecessor institutions go on to succeed in a wide range of fields. High-profile alumni include film director Ken Russell, Hilary Armstrong MP, human rights lawyer Imran Khan, CNN anchor Daljit Dhaliwal, Molex Inc president Martin Slark, the late Ian Dury, and Turner prize artists Rachel Whiteread and Jake Chapman.
The Innovation and Success alumni networking event will be held at UEL’s Docklands campus on Thursday 3 April from 6-9pm. Food and drink will be provided and the event is free, but places must be registered. Please contact Emma Cale on alumni@uel.ac.uk or 020 8223 2222 to book.
