Friday 15 June 2007

The University of East London is holding the biggest ever Summer Open Day at its Docklands and Stratford campuses on Saturday 16 June. More than 1,000 people from all over the country have registered online and many more are expected on the day.

Visitors will enjoy guided tours of the campuses, talk to staff and students about the hundreds of degree programmes and combinations on offer at UEL, and pick up advice and guidance on all aspects of university life.

The Open Day will mark the launch of UEL Extra, a brand-new, flexible approach to part-time education. UEL has recently expanded its part-time provision and now offers a wide range of degrees with flexible study options designed to suit individual needs.

Shani Gbaja, Head of UEL Extra, said: “This innovative approach offers great opportunities for learning and achievement, whether you want to develop your career, pick up new skills and qualifications, or pursue a lifelong interest.

“We are offering a vast range of diverse and exciting programmes, from short courses that develop specific skills right through to undergraduate and postgraduate degrees that open up exciting new career possibilities.

Visitors will be able to enjoy guided tours of the campuses, talk to staff and students about the hundreds of degree programmes and combinations on offer at UEL, and pick up advice and guidance on all aspects of university life.

A packed programme includes welcome presentations, subject specific talks, campus and residential tours, an outdoor barbecue, steel band, live music, DJs and much more.

Visitors will tour the new Business School, Knowledge Dock Centre and Student Village at Docklands and the new developments at Stratford, and a free shuttle bus service will run regularly between the two campuses.

Emma Burchfield, Head of Student Admissions at UEL said: “It is wonderful that we are increasingly seen as a first-choice university, not only in London but nationally and internationally.

“We are proud of our uniquely diverse and multicultural learning community, our excellent facilities and growing reputation for our teaching and research. This summer Open Day is a wonderful showcase for our new facilities and offers visitors the perfect opportunity to find out more.”
