On Tuesday 22 May, women from all Tower Hamlets’ Asian communities will get together for a day of inspiration, information and guidance on training, educational opportunities and community services in and around the borough.
The Asian Women’s Education and Training Fair will be held at the Idea Store, Whitechapel, from 10am to 3pm. The fair is organised by Aimhigher London East Thames Gateway partnership, and co-ordinated by London Metropolitan University and the University of East London (UEL). Other partners include Street Cred, Developing Learning Communities, and The Limehouse Project.
Activities will include start-up business advice, flower-arranging, prize draws, and the opportunity to browse exhibitions and information stalls. A wide variety of fun and informative workshops will be available, covering topics including careers in health-care and courses in hairdressing and beauty therapy.
Invited guest speakers will include Eeshita Azad, a Channel “S” presenter and graphic designer, and Dr. Shabila Begum, a Bangla TV presenter.
Tahera Huda of London Metropolitan University, and Jasbir, Community Development Co-ordinator at the University of East London, have organised a series of successful Education and Training Fairs in recent years.
Jasbir Panesar said: "We are looking forward to an exciting day, especially after the success of last year’s event. Access to educational and employment opportunities are vital to enable people of all ages to achieve their full potential.”
