Dark drama in new UEL art exhibition

Monday 19 February 2007

A University of East London artist has produced startling images of human suffering for her latest exhibition, currently on show at UEL’s Docklands Campus.

Eleni Lakkioti is a student on the Professional Doctorate programme in Fine Art at UEL. Her exhibition, entitled “Interweaving Spaces”, includes paintings, prints and digital images inspired by experiences of anguish and recovery.

Eleni said: “My work involves the darker side of human emotions and the part they play in our everyday lives. I try to create a theatrical atmosphere which implies a state of heightened drama.

“Reflecting on the past, and revisiting painful memories, is an important therapeutic process. Only by understanding our suffering can we truly transcend it.”

“Interweaving Spaces”, by Eleni Lakkioti, will be on show at UEL’s School of Architecture and the Visual Arts from 19-23 February.

Ends/.
