An artist at the cutting edge of textile and dress design will deliver a public lecture on digital developments in her field at the University of East London (UEL) Docklands Campus on Monday 13 November.
Dr Jane Harris, Director of the Textile Futures Research Unit at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, will speak on the subject of ‘Digital dressing: from virtuous to virtual design’ as part of UEL’s popular Public Lecture series.
Dr Harris, recently appointed Visiting Research Professor of Fashion Textiles at UEL’s School of Architecture and the Visual Arts, is a leading artist, designer and theorist, who combines technological and material skills in the production of figurative installations.
Dr Harris’ work has received numerous awards, most recently a Nesta Fellowship, and been widely exhibited at venues including the Victoria and Albert Museum, the Fine Arts Museum of San Francisco, the Crafts Council and the Institute of Contemporary Art.
In her UEL Public Lecture, Dr Harris will discuss how developments in digital technology are set to inspire our experience of future and historical textiles and dress.
Citing examples from her own creative practice, she will show how digital media tools, including motion capture, body scanning and 3D computer graphic modelling and animation will deliver new paradigms in fashion and textile spheres as well as digital film and performance.
Dr Harris’ lecture will take place at the UEL Docklands Campus at 4.30pm on Monday 13 November.
Admission is free, and all are welcome. To register, contact Sian Harris on 020 8223 3405 or visit www.uel.ac.uk/ava
