All welcome to UEL Open Evening on 18 October

Tuesday 10 October 2006

The University of East London (UEL) is opening its Docklands and Stratford campuses to prospective students and their families on the afternoon and evening of Wednesday 18 October.

Visitors will be able to find out all about the 300-plus degree programmes and combinations on offer at UEL, as well as get advice and guidance on all aspects of student life.

Prospective students will also find out about part-time and postgraduate options, short courses and February starts at UEL.

The University of East London has expanded its part-time provision and now offers a wide range of degrees with flexible study options designed to suit individual needs. Part-time degrees in Health, Psychology, Law, Business and Computing are proving particularly popular, and students have begun to benefit from the introduction of new bursaries and means-tested grants.

Jayne Scotland, Lead Nurse at Plaistow Hospital, has just started the final year of her part-time BSc (Hons) degree in Health Service Management. She said: “I chose UEL for many reasons: ease of location, the availability of the course, the wide choice of modules within the programme and, in particular, the part-time study option. There’s a huge diversity of students on the programme and it’s been great to share experiences with other health professionals working within the NHS.”

There are also many opportunities for postgraduate study, with a range of professionally recognised diplomas, doctorates and taught Masters programmes. New programmes launched this year include degrees in Imaginative Writing, Landscape Architecture, Evolutionary Anthropology and Terrorism Studies.

February starts are becoming an increasingly popular alternative to the traditional September entry and University of East London is recognised as a leader in the field. Over 1,200 students started their degrees at UEL in February 2006, nearly a quarter of the total intake for the year.

Carol Elliott, Head of Admissions at UEL, said: "For many students, February it is an ideal time to start a degree programme. With a high proportion of mature students, and many students taking time out between school or college and university, it offers students more flexibility and choice."

The Open Evening runs from 4-8pm. To register your place, call Franc Gooding on 020 8223 2884 or register online
