War against cyber-crime tops agenda at International Conference on Global E-Security

Thursday 13 April 2006

How can companies protect themselves from cyber-crime? And how are the police and security services using information technology in the fight against crime and terrorism?

On Thursday 20th April, leading experts in internet security from all over the world will gather in London’s Docklands for the 2nd International Conference on Global E-Security (ICGeS).

Keynote speakers include Tarique Ghaffur CBE, Assistant Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police, Professor Fred Piper, Director of the influential Information Security Group at Royal Holloway University of London, former hacker and Managing Director of US-based ISECOM Pete Herzog, London Assembly and Metropolitan Police Authority member Richard Barnes, Security Consultant Vernon Poole, and David Lilburn Watson of Forensics Computing.

The 2nd International Conference on Global E-Security will be held at the Docklands campus of the University of East London (UEL).

With increasing use of the internet for communications and transactions, there has been an exponential increase in cyber crime. The World Wide Web has been exploited by criminals globally and the increasingly widespread use of wireless networks allows hackers more opportunities for fraud and deception.

The conference will focus on issues including information security, criminal data mining, network and web security.

The Annual International Conference on Global e-Security was set up to create dialogue between crime-fighting agencies, the security industry, researchers and experts, and establish a platform from which security can be examined from several global perspectives.

ICGeS is organised by the School of Computing and Technology at the University of East London with the British Institute of Technology and E-commerce. For full details contact Dr Hamid Jahankhani on 020 8223 2071, via email ecn@uel.ac.uk.
