All welcome to Hackney Community Education and Training Fair – 11 May

On Thursday 11 May, communities from all over Hackney will get together for a day of inspiration, information and guidance on training, educational opportunities and community services in and around the borough.

The Community Education and Training Fair will be held at Morley Hall, Hackney Community College, 125-127 Mare Street, from 10am to 5pm.

It is organised by a partnership of Aimhigher London East Thames Gateway, co-ordinated by London Metropolitan University and the University of East London (UEL).

The Fair will be formally opened at 10.00am and the packed programme includes workshops, an exhibition, fashion show by Weaver’s Community Trust Girls Group, musical entertainment, Indian head massages, a prize draw and a free halal and vegetarian lunch.

Margaret Andrews, Director of Lifelong Learning for Hackney Community College, and Hakan Camuz, Managing Director of UMD Shipping Services, are among the guest speakers. Hackney Community College, Connexions, Limehouse Project, and Careers London will be among the organisations exhibiting.

Workshops are on themes including how to write a good CV, journeys through further and higher education, Indian head and neck massage and careers in health care.

Jasbir Panesar, Community Development Co-ordinator at the University of East London, has successfully organised a series of successful Education and Training Fairs in recent years, and has been impressed by the growing interest in the community.

She said: "We are looking forward to an exciting day. Access to educational and employment opportunities are vital to enable people of all ages to achieve their full potential.”
