Enterprising women from across East London will gather for the 2nd EMPOWER Conference at the London Muslim Centre in Whitechapel on Thursday 20 April.
Over 150 participants are expected to attend the workshop and networking event organised by the University of East London (UEL)in partnership with the Consortium of Bengali Associations (CBA), Knowledge Dock, Trapezia and E3.
Murziline Parchment of the Greater London Authority and Yvonne Thompson, President of the European Federation of Black Women Business Owners are among keynote speakers at the conference, which aims to highlight opportunities and explore entrepreneurial avenues for women of all communities.
EMPOWER is an ESF funded project run by the University of East London (UEL) Business School. It works with ethnic minority women in areas including Tower Hamlets, Newham, Hackney and Waltham Forest help them establish and grow their own businesses and support entrepreneurship in the community.
Participants will find out how to access business and financial support, including training and credit schemes. Other speakers include Mary Johnson of the Royal Shakespeare Company, businesswoman Yasmin Safri, Barbra Wallace of Stepney Works and Hannah Simcoe-Read of the University of East London.
The conference will also feature an exhibition by EMPOWER clients presenting their exciting business ideas, and new plans to create a Women’s Business Centre in East London.
