Students at the University of East London (UEL) Stratford campus were treated to a special Shrove Tuesday lunch, courtesy of UEL’s multi-faith Chaplaincy.
Kemi Adebola, Leteisha James and Caston Matewu were among international students who attended the event, held at University House on the Romford Road.
Revd Sam McBratney, who co-ordinates the chaplaincy at UEL said: “Lent is an important time in the Christian calendar so we wanted to get off to a good start on Shrove Tuesday. Our chaplaincy has been set up to offer spiritual support to UEL’s students, who come from a wide range of faith backgrounds.
“We are creating a quiet space for reflection, prayer and study and hope that the chaplaincy will become a place of welcome to people from across our university. We are now looking to appoint colleagues from the other major world faiths to enable the development of a rich spiritual as well as academic life here at UEL”.
Leteisha James, originally from Jamaica and now living in Leyton is in the final year of her BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science degree at UEL. She said: "The Chaplaincy is exactly what students at university need, especially those like me who are studying far from their home country and family. It provides real stability and support”.
