Stephen Timms visits award-winning e-learning company at UEL's Knowledge Dock

Friday 24 February 2006

Stephen Timms, MP for East Ham and Minister of State at the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP), has paid a visit to XOR Ltd, an award-winning e-learning company based at the University of East London (UEL), which has already saved the DWP tens of thousands of pounds.

XOR Ltd, run by east London resident John O’Sullivan, provides internet technology tools and e-learning content that helps the DWP manage its knowledge base. XOR was one of the first enterprises to establish itself at the business incubator units which are part of the Knowledge Dock at UEL’s Docklands campus.

A double award winner at the 2004 Institute of IT Training Awards, XOR has been working with the DWP in its various forms since 1991, developing hundreds of hours of e-learning specifically designed for DWP staff.

John O’Sullivan said: “It was great to see Stephen and show him the range of projects that we have completed for the DWP.”

Over the past few years, XOR has developed knowledge management tools which work on the intranet, empowering internal experts at the DWP to contribute to the development process and subsequently saving the taxpayer tens of thousands of pounds.

“We’re also currently excited about the very large projects that are rolling out for Job Centre Plus and Pensions. Our partnership approach with DWP has helped them implement leading edge solutions, providing immediate productivity benefits.”

Knowledge Dock, UEL’s business services arm, works with over 2,000 companies and entrepreneurs. The Knowledge Dock Business Centre at UEL houses 18 companies and this summer, will move into the new Business School and Knowledge Dock Centre currently under construction at Docklands campus.
