Academic staff guidelines for digital copying/scanning

The Print Services operates a scanning service under the terms of the CLA Scanning Licence. Full details are available.

This means articles from journals and chapters from books can be scanned as pdfs and uploaded onto UELPlus.

Material scanned under the Licence should only be made available to students and lecturers registered on the module for which it was scanned.

For details of amounts of copying/scanning permitted and lists of exempted material please refer to our LLS Copyright guide or our Online Copyright Tutorials blog.

Request for digital copying

A Scanning Request Form must be submitted in order to apply for a document to be scanned. This form must be completed by staff only .

For further information about the scanning procedure, please contact the print centre at print.centre@uel.ac.uk. If you have questions regarding copyright or exempted material, please contact copyright@uel.ac.uk.

Once details have been checked and approved, the requested item will be scanned and may then be incorporated into the relevant course in the VLE.

Please note that each scanned item must include a CLA Copyright notice.

You will be requested to remove the scanned item from UELPlus as soon as teaching, examinations and/or assessment of an individual unit or course of studying is completed, unless the same course is likely to be taught in the next term/semester or academic year. In this case, the request must be repeated in order to comply with licence terms.

IMPORTANT NOTE

During the periods directly before the beginning of the Semester (i.e. January - February and August - September) Print Services are inundated with demand for printing manuals and coursework in addition to routine work. Due to limits in machine and staffing capacity we require adequate lead in times, i.e. 3 to 5 working days, in order to produce your work on time. Please ring Peter Brown on x6426 or email him at print.centre@uel.ac.uk for current advice.
