Corporate Communications

The Corporate Communications team looks after all internal communications across the university. Using a number of channels we communicate important messages to staff and students aiming to keep everyone up-to-date with the latest news, events and campus information.

We also provide advice and guidance on the best way to get your message across and have a number of guidelines and policies to help you decide on the best methods to reach your intended audience.

Do you have a story or message to get out to students or staff? Depending on the subject, one or more of our communication channels may be suitable to communicate with our internal audiences.

Communicating with staff

This is a weekly newsletter, emailed to staff every Tuesday.
Articles for this should be 50 words maximum and should include an image.

Communicating with both students and staff

UEL Direct: www.uel.ac.uk/direct

UEL Direct is an online notice board with a news and events section for brief updates. There are two versions – one for students and one for staff. You can add your news to either or both boards.
Messages for this channel should be approximately 50-70 words and include full contact details, links to further information and deadlines if appropriate.

This online calendar provides a summary of all events, seminars, discussion forums and more, which may be of interest to students and staff.
Content for this should include date, location, short description of the event and contact/RSVP details.

Campus plasma screens

There are a number of plasma screens situated across all three campuses, providing another communication channel to students and staff.
Content should be approximately 15 words, with full details of the event/news, any dates/times/location, contact for further information and an image where possible.

Social media

We have both a Facebook and Twitter page for all corporate news, events, announcements etc.
Tweets should be a maximum of 140 characters. Facebook posts should be around 100 words maximum. Please also provide a link to more information where possible.

Email

We try to keep 'all staff' and 'all student' emails to a minimum and tend to use this channel of communication for urgent messages only that apply to at least 80% of the audience. The all staff and all student email policy outlines what messages are appropriate for this channel.
If you think your message requires an all student or all staff email, please email communications@uel.ac.uk with details of your message for consideration by the team.
