Welcome to the University of East London

Building success through innovation

The University of East London is increasingly recognised as one of the UK's leading modern universities, and our researchers are engaged in work of national and international importance across a wide range of disciplines. In 2005, we were rated in the top 5 post-1992 universities in the UK by the influential Guardian University Guide.

Highly rated fields of study include Sports Science, in which we are the highest-ranked modern university in the UK and in the top ten of all UK universities, Anatomy and Physiology (Physiotherapy), Anthropology, English, Media Studies and Communications, and Politics. No fewer than 15 of our programme areas achieved the maximum score for inclusiveness in the Guardian newspaper’s most recent University Guide league tables, more than for any other university in the UK. We also achieved the maximum possible rating for graduates’ job prospects in Anatomy and Physiology, English, Politics and Sports Science.

We have long been recognised for our innovative academic programmes. For example we were the first university to offer degree programmes in Physiotherapy, an area we continue to develop with our new Centre for Physiotherapy, Podiatry and Sports Science. Our new Master’s degree in Applied Positive Psychologist is Europe’s first postgraduate programme in this rapidly emerging – and increasingly important – field of psychology.

Today, we offer the widest and most exciting range of media, multimedia and creative industry programmes in the UK, and we are a leading centre for Refugee Studies, International and Human Rights Law, and Psychology.

We are also rated the UK’s Number One university for facilities spend per student by the prestigious Times University Guide 2007.

Much of this success has come about through partnership. Our network of partnerships extends across the globe. In Britain, our collaborative links include the Centre for Alternative Technology in Wales, the Psychosynthesis Education Trust, and the Tavistock Clinic, the UK's leading centre for postgraduate training in psychology.

We have also successfully developed an exclusive partnership with ICS, part of the Thompson publishing empire and a leading provider of distance learning courses. Our School of Distance and E-Learning has a rapidly growing portfolio of programmes available for distance learners.
