Applicants who apply to join programmes of study where there is close contact with children and/or vulnerable adults will be required to have a satisfactory Disclosure & Barring Service enhanced disclosure certificate.
Applicants for programmes relating to teaching, physiotherapy, podiatry, herbal medicine, acupuncture, social work and young and vulnerable people are required to undergo further statutory checks. A full list of programmes requiring a DBS check is available in the Guide to Disclosure and Health Screening.
Applicants who are offered places on a programme requiring a DBS check will be contacted directly by the Admissions office with further details of the process and a disclosure application form.
Occupational health clearance is required on identified programmes to ensure that applicants are medically suitable to undertake the programme. A list of the programmes requiring occupational health clearance, and how the applicants can be cleared as fit to join their programmes, is provided in the Guide to Disclosure and Health Screening.
Trainee teachers should refer to the attached UCET guidance relating to DBS checks and teacher trainees.
The Foreign and Commonwealth Office require international (non-EU) applicants applying to certain research and taught postgraduate programmes to have an ATAS certificate in support of their visa application.
UEL does not have any taught masters programmes that currently fall under the programmes requiring an ATAS certificate, should this situation change applicants will be notified.
Applicants to research based postgraduate programmes are advised to contact the Graduate School for further advice.
