Alan Wilson has taught at UEL for many years. After qualifying as a barrister in the 1980's, Alan worked as a lawyer for the Consumers' Association where he became Deputy Head of the Legal Department under David Tench. He campaigned for changes in the law on sale of goods rights and exemption clauses in consumer contracts. Alan has written widely on consumer law for 'Which?' and other journals and whilst at the Consumers association he regularly appeared on Radio and Television. He organised and delivered training courses on consumer law for the Institute of Consumer Advisors and local authorities. He has also contributed legal advice as a journalist in the Guardian, Financial Times and the Observer. For many years he had a column on the Guardian website entitled 'AskAlan'.
Alan has recently written an article entitled “Modern Remedies for Modern Markets” about the need for a right to reject in consumer contracts. He is currently interested in the impact of the Consumer Rights Directive on existing UK domestic law.
