Research

LSS’s research is highly regarded and increasingly influential. In the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise, UEL Law was ranked 7th out of the 14 London Law Schools and is in second place among  post-92universities, with 80% of its work rated as of international significance.  The large majority of Social Science staff submitted to the Sociology and the Social Policy and Social Work units of Assessment.

Our Sociology submission was the highest-rated of any post -92 university, and one of the largest in the country with 75% of its work judged of international significance and 10% rated as world class, 75% of our Social Policy and Social Work research was judged as of international quality.

LSS research includes the work of the:

Centre on Human Rights in Conflict, London East Research Institute, Centre for Migration, Refugees and Belonging, Centre for Institutional Studies, Centre for Narrative Research and Centre for Systemic Therapy Research.

We also host the Law and Development Research Group, the Sustainable Mobilities Research Group, and the Psychoanalytic Studies Research Group. In addition, LSS houses the AHRC-funded Media and the Inner World Network (with Roehampton University), and the ESRC-funded National Council for Research Methods NOVELLA node (with the Institute of Education).

The School has teaching and research partnerships with a number of influential local, national and international partners, such as the Metropolitan Police, the Tavistock Centre, and (for undergraduate exchanges) the American University in Cairo, Columbia College, Chicago, and Linkoping University, Sweden The school is an active participant in the Erasmus schem, enabling its students to study in other universities in Europe, eg Utrecht and receiving in exchange many students from other European universities.
